Bill Elliott is scheduled to race on August 25, 2018 at Road America for GMS Racing in the #23 NASCAR Xfinity Series machine
Elliott’s last NASCAR Cup Series start came in 2012 at Daytona; Last Xfinity start was in 2005 in Memphis
Statesville N.C. (August 4, 2018) – GMS Racing officials announced today that veteran driver, Bill Elliott will drive the No. 23 ISM Connect Chevrolet Camaro at Road America in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Johnsonville 180.
“When this opportunity came up from Mike (Beam), I had to jump on it,” said Bill Elliott.
“Chase (Elliott) has ran a handful of races for the team so I figured I would give it a shot at Road America. Beam and I have worked together in the past so it will be exciting to get back behind the wheel and bring back some old memories,” Bill Elliott concluded.
Elliott will be making his first NXS start at Road America. The Dawsonville, GA native has a total of 43 NXS starts, one win, eight top-five’s, 16 top-10’s and two pole awards.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bill (Elliott) to the GMS Racing family,” said president of GMS Racing, Mike Beam.
“Bill has many years in NASCAR and it’s going to be great to watch him come back, especially in GMS equipment. Bill and I worked together back in the day and had a lot of success so hopefully we can pick up where we left off and create some more great memories,” Beam concluded.

Notes: The NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Road America will run on August 25th.
“I’ve been through so many evolutions of racing. I just want to see what this stuff’s like,” Bill Elliott explained to Claire B Lang on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio shortly after the announcement.
“I would just like to say, ‘How are these cars today? How are things going along?’ Just kinda see what it’s all about.”
“That’s more my interest than anything. Mike Beam asked me to do it. We talked about it a little bit. I said, ‘Mike, have you totally lost your mind?’ ”
Bill Elliott is the 1988 Winston Cup Champion. He claimed 44 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series. In addition, he has a single NASCAR Xfinity Series victory. That wins came at Watkins Glen in 1993.
Elliott attempted to qualify for a NASCAR Busch Series event in 2007 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, he didn’t have enough speed in the car, failing to qualify for the race.
His last Xfinity Series start was in 2005. He ran at Memphis Motorsports Park in the tail of the season for Evernham Motorsports. Elliott finished 16th that day.
