NASCAR qualifying results from Michigan International Speedway
Next up, they’ll set the NASCAR starting lineup for Michigan International Speedway. NASCAR Cup Series qualifying is on deck at the 2-mile oval in Brooklyn, Michigan.

The first 18 cars set group A qualifying. They were in the bottom 20 positions in qualifying last week. Their order within the group is set by random draw.
Qualifying Order (Groups): The final 20 cars to the track will makeup group B. These were the top 20 qualifiers from the previous week. They order within the group was also set by random draw.
Brad Keselowski was fastest in the afternoon practice session, until 1 minute left when Austin Dillon jumped to the top of the board. Keselowski is now set to be the last car to turn a qualifying lap.
Michigan Rules Package: They’ll run WFO around the 2-mile oval. A horsepower reduction and downforce increase left everyone with their pedal to the floor in practice runs. Expect the same in this session.
Inspection: No cars failed pre-qualifying inspection 2 times or more. The starting lineup will be official at the conclusion of this round. However, teams will still need to pass pre-race inspection on Sunday.

Qualifying Report
Laps: 1
PJ1 Trackbite has been installed at Michigan International Speedway. This is the first time a property owned by International Speedway Corporation has used the compound. It’s been installed in lane three of the race track.
With one hot lap, drivers are using the traction compound to get the RPM up. They run high and in the traction compound on the get up to speed lap. When the green drops, they drop back down to the normal line.
It’s similar to qualifying at Daytona. More so, Logano didn’t use any arc on corner exit. Off turn four, he remained on the bottom lane of the race track, right against the paint on the apron.
Austin Dillon is the final car to go in group A. He jumps to the top of the board. Dillon ran right through the middle in turns 3-4 and he didn’t swing to the wall on the exit, remaining in the center before dropping to the apron to come toward the line.

Group B
Austin Dillon ran about a tenth slower than his run in practice earlier today.
Chase Elliott is the 27th car to qualify. He dipped his right side tires in the PJ1 at the entry to turn three. A big wide arc to the bottom and he held it there on the corner exit. Elliott jumps to the top of the board.
Moments later, Alex Bowman jumps to the top of the board. Hendrick Motorsports has collectively picked up speed since practice.
William Byron is the 32nd car to qualify. He jumps to the top of the board. Hendrick Motorsports now holds the top three positions.
But, the party is over for Team Chevy. Kevin Harvick jumps to the top of the board. He was trending in the green from the moment he took the green. He had more speed built up on his warm up lap.
Brad Keselowski is up next. He’s a big threat for the pole speed in his home race at Michigan. He’s trending in the green as he rolls into turn one.
Brad Keselowski will start from the pole position in the Consumers Energy 400 for the NASCAR Cup Series!
