The Coca-Cola 600 is NASCAR’s longest race. Four stages are on deck for tonight’s event. It’s unique to see qualifying and the race in the same day.
This is the only qualifying session currently on the NASCAR schedule. All the other races are being set by the rule book.
They’ve laid down PJ1 ahead of this qualifying session. Drivers are unsure if they’ll use it.
But, they’ll run their hot lap without a single lap of practice. Drivers will see turn one for the first time, on their qualifying warm up lap.
NASCAR has been running single day shows, allowing teams to leave and return to their shops, in the same day.
The final 20 finishers from Darlington drew numbers for their running qualifying order, those drivers will run 1-20. The top 20 from Darlington will run last in this session.
This is an impound session. After qualifying, NASCAR will impound the car and allow minimal adjustments ahead of tonight’s race.

Chase Elliott was on his get up to speed lap as DiBenedetto tagged the wall. NASCAR is allowing Elliott to return to the pit lane and cool down the car.
As Elliott hits the track, he’s running a different line than teammate Johnson. Elliott uses most of the race track down the back stretch. 2nd for Elliott so far.
