Streets of Chicago make their NASCAR debut

Tonight, real-world NASCAR Cup Series drivers take to the digital world of iRacing. We’re going racing on the Chicago Street Course.

This is a fictional track, for now. iRacing, the City of Chicago and NASCAR were involved in putting this together. But, iRacing deployed the scanners on the streets of Chicago before putting it together. It’s an accurate and to scale version of a possible NASCAR track for the future.

The Next Gen car is also in use for this race. Drivers have two resets and a fixed setup. The only thing they can change is the brake bias.

It’s the Windy City 110. James Davison and Anthony Alfredo line up on the front row. 51 laps of digital stock car racing are up next…

iRacing Report

Green flag, Davison leads into turn one. Anthony Alfredo spins and collects the wall. William Byron takes over 2nd.

William Byron spins on his own. He’s forced to use a reset as Joshua Bilicki takes over 2nd.

Lap 3, Davison leads Bilicki by 5 seconds.

Lap 10, Martin Truex Jr has climbed from 9th to 3rd. He’s closing on Bilicki for 2nd.

Lap 12, Ryan Newman is rolling backwards in turn seven in an attempt to turn around after a spin. Tyler Reddick comes around the blind corner and makes nose to nose contact. The track is blocked and Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace and Ross Chastain are all collected in the road block.

Lap 19, Bubba Wallace has climbed from 28th to 7th.

Lap 25, Davison leads Bilicki by 22 seconds.

10 to go, Davison is driving away and leads by 45 seconds.

James Davison wins on the Streets of Chicago by about 55 seconds.
