Bobby Pierce, Chris Madden tangle at Davenport Speedway (Video)

“Headed home with fire in our eyes”

On Saturday night, Davenport Speedway concluded a three-day show for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. The 70-lap feature paid $30,000 to win.

Watch the Chris Madden vs Bobby Pierce incident video below.

With 30 to go, Pierce was in a battle for the lead with Devin Moran. He found speed on the cushion, running higher than anyone in the field.

With 13 to go, Madden slid Boom Briggs and Brandon Sheppard, at the same time. Madden jumped from 5th to 3rd and was charging to the front. A caution dropped a lap later, bunching up the leaders.

With 11 to go, Pierce slid Moran for the race lead. He cleared him in turn three but lost all his momentum off the corner. Moran crossed under him to retake the lead.

The next lap, Pierce jumped the cushion in turn three on his own. With no walls at the track, Pierce dropped his right rear off the track and lost a ton of ground. Madden drove right by to take 2nd away.

With 5 to go, Pierce was building momentum around the cushion. Madden was braking far earlier at corner entry and pitching the car for the bottom lane.

The alternative driving styles clashed.

As Madden jumped on the brakes, Pierce remained in the throttle. Pierce drove into the fuel cell of Madden, turning him into turn three.

Under caution

Madden stepped on the throttle and looped the car in the correct direction. The caution was out.

Under caution, Madden was on the gas and looking for Bobby Pierce. He pulled alongside Pierce, hand gestures in action.

Madden then pulled down to a World of Outlaws official for clarification.

Per the rules, Madden never came to a complete stop. Thus, he was allowed to rejoin the field where he blended, 6th.

Bobby Pierce comments

Both drivers commented via social media after the race:

Bobby Pierce stated, “5th tonight at Davenport Speedway – K Promotions with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.”

“Ran 2nd for most of the race but made contact with Chris Madden entering turn 3 in the late stages. I get everything out of my car and then some, I was just trying to get the best run off into the corner that I could, but on that lap he delayed on entry a bit and I got into him, causing him to spin.”

Pierce concluded, “Chris Madden Racing is one of my favorite guys in the sport to race with. I have nothing but RESPECT for him. It wasn’t intentional. I totally understand his reaction with being upset, as I would be too. Congrats to Devin Moran Racing, Brian Shirley Racing, and Boom Briggs on the top 3.”
