Kyle Larson and Donny Schatz put on a thriller in the World of Outlaws season opener
Tonight, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series unload in Barberville, Florida. It’s the 2022 season opener for the series via the half-mile Volusia Speedway Park.

Report
Green flag, they run near even into turn one. Schatz knocks the cushion and takes the lead off turn two. Reutzel fights back on the inside into turn three but he can’t pull even.
Lap 3, caution.
Green, Schatz leads. Larson looks inside of David Gravel for 3rd but he can’t complete the pass.
Lap 6, Schatz has caught the tail of the field. Spin behind them, caution.
Green, Schatz leads Reutzel.
Lap 9, Larson has a run on Gravel into turn one. He dives to the inside and slides him to take 3rd away.
The track is very heavy due to rains earlier in the week. Drivers roll right through the ruts.
Lap 15, Reutzel is held up by lap traffic. Larson closes right to his bumper and has a run into turn one. He drives deep to the inside, knocks the rut, slides him and completes the pass for 2nd.
5 to go, Larson is closing on Schatz.
4 to go, he’s caught the bumper of Schatz. Brad Sweet slows just ahead of the leaders, caution.
Green, Larson drives it deep to the bottom once more into turn one. The car jumps all over the place and he still completes the slide job on Schatz.
Schatz crosses under him off turn two. They nearly touch as they fight for space into turn three. Schatz slides him back and retakes the lead in turn three.
Donny Schatz opens the gap and wins at Volusia Speedway Park!
