Cole Custer handed penalty for splitter modification

Jonathan Toney has been fined $25,000; Points docked

Last weekend, NASCAR raced on the 2-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway. During inspection, Cole Custer’s front splitter was confiscated by NASCAR.

The splitter was taken to the NASCAR R&D Center for further inspection. Upon a detailed inspection, Stewart-Haas Racing has been handed a penalty.

Section C: “except as specified, splitters must be used exactly as supplied from the manufacturer.”

Section H: “rounding of any edges of the splitter will not be permitted.”

Crew chief Jonathan Toney has been fined $25,000 as a result. The team and driver have been docked 20 owner points and 20 driver points. Additionally, 5 playoff points have also been removed.

Custer is a two-time winner this season in Xfinity Series competition.
