Ty Majeski was found with leaking valve stems due to a trick cap design
Ty Majeski is a playoff driver in the NASCAR Truck Series. Last week, he was penalized ahead of qualifying at the Milwaukee Mile.

The illegal part was discovered ahead of qualifying. NASCAR noted sections 14.16.1 and 14.16.1.A&C.
The penalty was an L2 penalty. Majeski was docked 75 driver points and 5 playoff points. The team was also docked 75 owner points. Additionally, crew chief Joe Shear Jr was fined $25,000 and suspended for four races.
The valve stem cap was designed to release air from the tire. The cap had a stem inside of it, to press down on the valve stem.
NASCAR tested the tire in an underwater dunk tank at the track. Air bubbles confirmed their thoughts on the part.
The part was discovered before qualifying. Majeski did not qualify or race with the illegal valve stem cap, at Milwaukee.
Since the violation was discovered before the truck went out for qualifying, the penalty was on the lower end of the L2 penalty scale.
With recent penalties, NASCAR has been putting illegal parts on display for other teams as well as the media to see. On Friday, NASCAR brought the illegal part to Kansas Speedway.

“As this cap gets tightened over the valve stem, it slowly starts releasing air,” NASCAR’s Seth Kramlich told Bob Pockrass of the cap.
“Until it was completely sealed, it would stop. Light pressure would actually release air from the tire.”
“We verified it in the dunk tank at Goodyear. It was assessed that is was obviously a manipulation of the tire.”
“Unfortunate for sure. But, obviously something we take very serious.”
The NASCAR Truck Series are heading into the final race in the Round of 10 this weekend. They’ll race at Kansas Speedway.
Majeski picked up a win at Indianapolis Raceway Park. With the win, he’s locked into the next round of the playoffs.
