Kyle Larson talks 2024 dirt late model plans

The NASCAR champion is set to race his first late model event since June 2023

Kyle Larson spends most of his weekends with the NASCAR Cup Series. But, beyond his day-job, Larson can be found at short tracks all-over the country.

Larson races dirt midgets, dirt sprint cars, dirt late models and outlaw karts and he finds victory lane in all of them. But, there’s only so many days in the year.

In 2023, the 31-year-old only ran a few late model races. However, after several months away from the division, he’s set for a return.

Vado Speedway Park is set to host the annual Wild West Shootout on Jan 6-14. $300,000 is for grabs if a driver is able to sweep the week of racing.

Larson will also be racing his No. 6 car at Golden Isles Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. That takes place Jan 25-27.

In total, Larson thinks he’ll run 15 dirt late model races in 2024.

Larson also noted that it’s possible Brandon Sheppard or another Longhorn driver ends up in the No. 6 car to get it up to date.

Kyle Larson talks 2024 plans

“I’m not expecting to go there and win but we’ll see,” Kyle Larson told FloRacing of the upcoming trip to Vado.

“I’m still learning. And, I’m sure I’ll have to re-learn a lot of stuff since I’ve been out of the car so long.”

“I haven’t gotten to race a bunch this off-season. Excited to get back behind the wheel.”

“There will be less late model races that I get to run this year. Just because my sprint car schedule is so busy. May with Indy, my schedule is just crazy.”

Larson added, “I think I’ll still hit 15 or so.”
