Wild video showcases extreme tire wear at Bristol Motor Speedway

Watch the crazy onboard video as Chase Briscoe passed nearly half the field in just 5 laps on new tires

On Sunday, we saw a unique NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway. A mysterious tire issue caused extreme tear wear.

Watch the video below.

Denny Hamlin grabbed the pole position with a 15.3 second lap. However, drivers and teams weren’t prepared for the falloff they’d see in the long run.

Toward the end of a tire run (40 laps), drivers were now turning laps in the 18 second bracket, or worse. The drivers finally got what they were looking for, tire wear.

And, in the final stage, we got to see a full green flag pit cycle. Meaning cars with very old tires were mixed with cars that just pitted.

Chase Briscoe shared the following video to social media. It shows the No. 14 car on new tires, driving through the field like a video game.

He stated, “This is by far the most fun thing ever as a racecar driver, literally feels like a video game on easy mode when you have new tires and the rest of the field is on old tires.”

In just 5 laps, Briscoe passed nearly 20 cars, half the field.

After the race, he stated, “Crazy race today! Was really fun at times and a little frustrating at times but overall with a little more tweaking I think this could be a lot of fun on the short tracks.”
