Logistics for NASCAR haulers heading to Mexico City are insane

NASCAR haulers have a busy job ahead as they haul the sport to the first points race outside of United States borders

It will take 38 hours for NASCAR teams to travel across the border to the NASCAR event in Mexico City.

The NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan concluded on Sunday afternoon. For the hauler drivers, their journey has just begun.

Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, Mexico will host the first NASCAR Cup Series points race outside of the United States. The 14-turn track stretches 2.429 miles.

On the morning of the NASCAR race in Michigan, teams brought in transport haulers from North Carolina carrying the cars that will be used in Mexico. Those cars were then placed in the haulers as the cars used in the race in Michigan were unloaded.

The transport haulers were staged until the conclusion of Sunday’s race. The cars used at MIS were then loaded and sent to North Carolina.

The race haulers fitted with cars heading to Mexico were then closed and sealed by U.S. Customs.

On Sunday night, they began a 24 hour journey from the North edge of the United States to the South end in Laredo, Texas.

The haulers will all cross the border together during a four hour span on Tuesday morning. Once clearing the border, they still have a 14 hour trip to the track in Mexico City.

RFK Racing details the NASCAR hauler trip to Mexico

“Right now, we’re going through all the carts, making sure that if it wasn’t on the manifest for Mexico, to get us across the border, it’s gone,” Jason Dyer, hauler driver for RFK Racing No. 60 car stated.

“We can’t take any consumables with us across the border. So, everything has to go back on the swap hauler before we leave here after the race.”

“NASCAR let us come in early prior to the garage opening to do this swap.”

“We’ll be in Laredo, Texas tomorrow night (Monday). We’ll stage there.”

“We start the border crossing process at 6AM Tuesday morning. I think it’s schedule to take 6-10am.”

“From there, we’ll start the 14 hour journey down to Mexico City.”
