Earlier today, they ran two hours of practice. Throughout the day, the track continued to pick up speed. That’s likely to be the case yet again for qualifying but the temperature will continue to drop as well.

The qualifying order has been set by car owner points from the 2021 season. That puts a new team like Kurt Busch’s No. 45 out first in this session. Series champion Kyle Larson will be the last car to qualify.

Qualifying
Report

Group A features 18 cars as the field has been divided in half between two groups.

Kurt Busch is the first car to the track and he turns a 14.437. That’s significantly slower than practice earlier. The track is dirty and the tires are cold.

Chase Briscoe is the 14th car on the track. He’s shifting in both corners, he’s the first car to do that but he lands 7th on the board.

The bottom 20 in points have completed qualifying. As we roll into the top teams, here’s the order so far…

Daniel Suarez is the 17th car on the track. Suarez spends the full warm up lap weaving back and forth to build heat in his tires. He jumps to 2nd.

Justin Haley is the fastest car so far as group B concludes.

Bottom 18 in Points (Halfway in Qualifying): 1. Justin Haley (13.891); 2. Daniel Suarez (13.952); 3. Cole Custer (13.953); 4. Ricky Stenhouse Jr (13.962); 5. Landon Cassill (14.050); 6. Bubba Wallace (14.076); 7. AJ Allmendinger (14.120); 8. Erik Jones (14.194); 9. BJ McLeod (14.235); 10. Chase Briscoe (14.247);

Group B

The second group of cars have rolled onto the track. These are the top 18 cars from points in the 2021 season.

Harrison Burton is the first car to the track in group B. He jumps to 5th overall.

Aric Almirola locks up on his second lap. He nearly tags the wall on corner exit and loses a ton of time on his money lap.

Tyler Reddick is the 24th car to the track and he jumps to the top of the board. His car rotated the center of the corner, noticeably better than everyone.

Christopher Bell nearly spins into turn one on his first lap. He rebounds for 9th on lap 2.

Kyle Busch was loose into turn one on both laps. However, he still jumps to the top of the board with just 8 cars remaining.

Martin Truex Jr bobbles on both laps. He’s buried in 33rd so far.

Kyle Larson is the last car on the track. He’s heavy on the brakes and gas on his warm up lap to build heat. But, he can’t get it done.

Kyle Busch is quickest as qualifying is complete!
