Bubba Wallace emotional after 2nd place finish at Michigan (Video)

Watch as Bubba Wallace was disappointed after the NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series took the green flag at Michigan International Speedway. Bubba Wallace started the race from the pole position, the first pole for 23XI Racing.

With about 30 laps to go, Bubba Wallace restarted 2nd to Kevin Harvick. Harvick was able to clear him. Unfortunately, Wallace lost several spots to the momentum on the outside lane.

Wallace struggled to get those spots back. Side draft after side draft, Harvick opened up his lead.

With 18 to go, Wallace slid Logano to take 2nd away. At this point, Wallace had the faster car but Harvick led by 4.5 seconds.

Wallace was able to close the gap slightly but Kevin Harvick drove to victory lane claiming his first win of the 2022 season.

After the race, Bubba Wallace climbed from his car full of emotion. He kneeled by the side of his car and rested his head on the door.

Wallace has one win in his career. That win came in October 2021 at Talladega Superspeedway.

“Just replaying everything I could have done,” Bubba Wallace opened in his post race interview with NBC Sports.

“Took the top there on the restart, thought I could hang with the No. 4. Just got to racing the No. 5 and No. 22, the No. 22 did a good job of getting another Ford contract, helping a Ford win.”

“All in all, incredible weekend. Appreciate my team, wish we could have got Toyota in victory lane. She was fast man.”

“I’ll wear this one on my heart, for awhile. I failed everybody.”

“Could have cleared the No. 5 sooner. He was doing his part, putting it on my [rear] quarter there. Just the side-by-side allowed the No. 4 to get away.”

“I could have taken the top and pushed the No. 4. I could have been the No. 5 in that scenario. Hate it for our team, sucks.”

“Great job all weekend. It is a hell of a job for our team.”

“There’s a lot of positives in this. But, I’m a person that looks at the negatives more than the positives. I need to change that.”

“But, I want to win so bad. And, this was the best opportunity.”

Wallace currently sits -235 points to the playoff cutline.
