Hurricane Nicole traveled the length of Florida and into Georgia. It brought race-threatening rains with it.
Senoia, GA was handed about an inch of rain on Friday. Most of that precipitation came in the morning hours.
Friday’s portion of the show was at high risk for a rainout. But, track officials were having none of that.
First, they laid down massive plastic tarps in the corners. Those tarps prevented a bulk of the water from soaking in.
But, they were unable to cover the entire track in tarps. Thus, hours before race time, they lowered the helicopter. Officials lowered a helicopter, just feet above the racing surface and used the winds generated from the chopper to help dry the track.
This is not the first time a dirt track has applied this strategy. Golden Isles Speedway, another dirt track in Georgia used the same method in 2020.
