NASCAR noted that Harvick was found with bolts missing from the windshield. He was docked with a last place finish.

Crew chief Rodney Childers noted that his team had silicon added to the bolts to further reduce the likelihood of them backing out.

Stewart-Haas Racing said the bolts just came out during the course of the long race due to vibrations. They stated, “we had bolts that hold the windshield in place back out over the course of the 500 miles.”

This week, NASCAR brought photos as well as pieces for a demonstration of the violation.

“You can see where they’re missing there,” Brad Moran stated as he walked through the pictures from Harvick’s machine.

“It was a locking nut plate. They’re like a lock nut but they’re even better than a nylon lock nut. For safety and security reasons, these are a better locking nut plate.”

“I put one in tight so you can see. For me to get that out, you have to wind it, with force, all the way out.”

“I have one here most of the way out. You can try to loosen that with your fingers. I don’t think anybody here or in this garage is going to be able to loosen that with their fingers.”

“These will not vibrate. They will not come out. Even when they’re loose, you can not loosen that part off.”

“These locking nuts can be replaced.”
