Watch as Bob Gardner ran into race leader Daryn Klein under caution causing him to flip at Farmer City Raceway
On Friday night, the 1/4-mile bullring of Farmer City Raceway in Illinois hosted the MARS Late Model Championship with a $5,000 payout to the winner. And the drama was underway in a hurry.

Bob Gardner picked up the quick time in super late model qualifying. He started from the pole position in the first heat race of the night.
On the green flag, Daryn Klein drove it deep to the bottom in turn three. He tossed a huge slider. Klein cleared him but he all but parked it exiting turn four.
Gardner was on the cushion and on the gas. He got into the back of Klein. Gardner found the outside wall and he spun across the track and into the infield.
Retaliation
As the caution was out, Gardner was seeing red. He took a loop through the infield and re-entered the track in turn one, proceeding to drive the wrong way on the track.
Gardner came to a stop on the track as the field looped back around in turn four and was heading nose to nose with him. The field drove by. Gardner then cut across the infield and re-entered the track on the backstretch.
He pulled next to Klein. Gardner then drove into the side of Klein under the yellow flag. But it wasn’t over and he then hooked him in the left rear.
Klein flipped upside down and landed on his roof. As officials ran to the scene, Gardner left the track.
Bob Gardner stated via social media after the incident, “Terbo Tyler Erb … and you thought cussing was bad.”
Both drivers did not return to the track for the rest of the night.

Update: Penalty issued to Bob Gardner
On Monday, July 21, 2025 the Midwest Auto Racigng Series issued a penalty.
As a result of the severity of the on-track incident, the following penalties have been imposed on Bob Gardner:
– “Indefinite suspension for a minimum of 6 months from all MARS Late Model Championship Powered by FK Rod Ends events before possibly reinstating.”
– “An indefinite suspension for a minimum of 6 months from all World of Outlaws Late Model events before possibly reinstating.”
– “Indefinite suspension for a minimum of 6 months from all DIRTcar/World Racing Group sanctioned events before possibly reinstating.”
