The frame was bent several inches and the fuel cell was torn from the machine after the impact with the wall
Former NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne has returned to the driver’s seat after several years of uncertainty around his career. He abruptly left NASCAR before the end of the 2018 season after suffering from medical issues during longer races.
Watch the Kasey Kahne crash video below.
Now, Kahne has found a home on the dirt track where he has collected 70 sprint car wins in his career. Last year, he ran the last several months of the season in a Roth Motorsports entry. At the end of last year, he quickly decided that he wasn’t done.
For 2022, he’s racing full time in over 80 events with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. At age 41, he’s chasing Rookie of the Year.
It all went wrong in a hurry as they dropped the green flag on the LCQ race.
Heading into turn one, Kahne was thrown into the outside wall at a high rate of speed. It remains unclear who he made contact with entering the corner.
The driver bounced off the outside wall. The machine came to a rest on it’s side and the driver was able to climb out.
The machine was mangled. The chassis bars on the back of the machine, near the upper portion of the seat were pushed in toward the driver by 6 to 8 inches. The fuel cell was ripped completely off the car.
The KKR Dirt twitter account posted shortly after the crash, “We’re so glad to see Kasey Kahne walk away from that one!”
According to multiple fan reports from the track, the driver was reportedly placed in an ambulance and cleared by the medical team.
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule resumes at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on February 25.
