Hamlin says he was brake-checked; Harvick says he wasn’t
On lap 380, Denny Hamlin was throwing some light bumps to the back bumper of Kevin Harvick. This was after the two drivers exchanged positions on the race track while inside the top-10.
However, as Denny Hamlin was attempting to re-pass Harvick he was hit with an abrupt stop sign. Kevin Harvick hit the brakes and Denny Hamlin ran into the back of him down the straight-away.
From there, Denny Hamlin made a pit stop then returned the following lap to repair front end damage. He was able to rally back and finish just outside the top-10 in the 12th position.

“He had just got to me and I think he bumped me three or four times,” Denny Hamlin told Fox Sports at the conclusion of the race at Martinsville Speedway.
“Then, I was just bumpin’ him back and he brake checked me. So, I guess I probably should have just brake checked him in the first place.”
“It was just some light bumps here and he just slams on the brakes. Classy.”
Denny Hamlin finished 30th in the 2017 spring race and 39th in the 2016 event. His average finish after 25 starts is 10th.
“We gotta work on a few things but this is definitely a step in the right direction from where we’ve been in the past couple of races here.”
“I really hate that we didn’t get a good finish like we probably deserve.”
Back in February, Denny Hamlin made a joke on a sports radio show about NASCAR drivers taking Adderall. Kevin Harvick was vocal against that joke.
Ironically, back in October, Harvick was involved in some paint trading with Ryan Blaney. After that incident, Harvick stated that he didn’t like the brake-checkin’ and hittin’ down the straight-aways.
Fast forward, Kevin Harvick appeared to have been on the giving end of a brake check. Harvick was asked after the race if he deliberately brake-checked Denny Hamlin. He shot it down.
“No, he hit me a couple times and I was just trying to make sure I had my car under control,” Harvick said.
