NASCAR race results from Richmond Raceway

Today, it’s the first points paying event on a short track. The 0.75-mile of Richmond Raceway is set to host the NASCAR Cup Series in Virginia. We’re set for the green flag in the Toyota Owners 400.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 70 (1-70 / 400)

Green flag, Blaney is clear into turn one. Byron tucks in under his bumper to hold 2nd off turn two.

Lap 8, Kurt Busch slows with a major fuel pressure issue and the caution is out. Kyle Larson and a few others head for the pit lane.

Ryan Blaney crusies to the stage one win at Richmond Raceway! Larson was able to climb to 15th after stopping for tires but the tires he put on were from qualifying.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 160 (71-230 / 400)

Pit Penalty: Alex Bowman drops to the rear for pitting outside the box.

Green flag on stage two, Blaney leads Chastain off turn two. They briefly run three wide behind them after Chase Elliott spun the tires on the second row.

Lap 156, the first round of green flag stops are complete and Martin Truex Jr cycles to the lead. Truex Jr was the first to the pit lane in the cycle. Christopher Bell,and Denny Hamlin stayed out longer than anyone. Truex Jr and most of the others will pit twice in this stage while Hamlin and Bell will pit just once.

Lap 178, Truex Jr and others head for the pit lane for the second time. Bell returns to the lead, for now.

Lap 187, Ryan Blaney leans on the bumper of Chastain. The next corner, Chastain lines him up and shoves Blaney into the corner. Chastain retakes the 5th spot.

20 to go in stage two, Bell runs three wide with lap cars. Suarez gets his lap back in the process.

19 to go in stage two, Martin Truex Jr has run down Christopher Bell. With fresher tires, he drives right by to take the lead.

Stage 3 – Report

Green flag on stage three, Truex Jr leads Christopher Bell off turn two. They form four wide for 10th behind them. Joey Logano works to the outside of Bell in the battle for 2nd.

Lap 243, Blaney shoves Ross Chastain and Chastain loses several positions.

Lap 246, Erik Jones shoves Cody Ware into turn one. Ware collects Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Ware is in the wall. The caution is out.

Lap 257, Cole Custer cuts down on Ty Dillon. Custer runs up the track and spins Austin Cindric. Another caution is out.

Slow stop for Logano as the jack is lodged under the car. He pitted from 2nd. Truex Jr restarts 4th. Byron, Suarez and Austin Dillon pitted on the last caution and stay out.

Green, William Byron leads Suarez.

Lap 274, Truex Jr quickly climbs to 2nd with slightly fresher tires. Truex Jr climbs right to the bumper of Byron in the battle for the lead. Yet, he can’t find a way by the leader.

75 to go

75 to go, a mix of pit strategy is playing out. Truex Jr head to the pit lane and Byron cycles back to the lead after pitting several laps prior.

51 to go, NASCAR has posted Kyle Busch for putting tape over the grill. The team intended to put it over the brake duct. He returns to the pit lane under green,

37 to go, Byron leads Truex Jr by 4.3 seconds. Kyle Larson is fastest than both of them and closing fast. Byron has the oldest tires of the three, Larson the newest. Byron’s tires are 13 laps older than Truex, Larson’s are 1 lap newer than Truex’.

13 to go, Byron leads Truex Jr by 1 second.

10 to go, Hamlin has newer tires than all of them and he’s closing fast. Hamlin runs 3rd and he’s closing fast on Truex Jr. Kevin Harvick is on the same strategy.

7 to go, Hamlin works to the outside of Truex Jr and takes 2nd away.

5 to go

5 to go, Hamlin is on the bumper of William Byron for the race lead! Hamlin dives to the inside and he clears him with ease. Kevin Harvick follows Hamlin through and takes over 2nd.

2 to go, Hamlin leads Harvick by three car lengths. A pack pf lap cars sit ahead of the leader.

1 to go, Hamlin takes the lap cars three wide and forces his way by.
