Tri-County Racetrack listed for sale

The North Carolina dirt track will not open for 2024 under current ownership

Tri-County Racetrack is a 1/4-mile bullring dirt track. The current ownership has elected to list the property up for sale.

The track is located in Brasstown, North Carolina. It’s on the far western side of the state near Tennessee.

The Wimpey family are handing the property in the hands of a real estate agent. There are hopes the property will remain a race track under new ownership.

Current track promoter Ray Cook has elected not to open the track for the 2024 season.

Ray Cook: Statement from the promoter

“It is with deep regret to announce today that my family and I will not be re-opening Tri-County Racetrack to start the 2024 season,” Ray Cook opened in a statement.

“The Wimpey family feels that it’s best to turn the track over to a real estate agent and wait for the property to sell before it opens again. It is the Wimpey family’s wishes that it still remains a racetrack with hopes of a quick sale, so the track can reopen very soon.”

“As for me and my family, we would like to thank every fan, driver, race team, etc. that has attended Tri-County Racetrack during our time as promoters.”

“All the great employees and staff that did everything they could to help us keep the track open, Thank You. All the great sponsors and supporters that have sacrificed so much of their time and money to make sure the track stayed open, Thank you.”

“It has been a great experience and we’ve learned so many things to do and not to do during this time that we can’t list them all. Hopefully, this will be a very short period of time and racing will resume at Tri-County Racetrack very soon.”

“We will continue to work with all of the surrounding tracks any way we can to help keep dirt track racing alive and well.”

He concluded, “Thanks again for everything and all of your support!!!”

“It has been brought to our attention that there might be some confusion over the closing of the Tri-County dirt track, in Brasstown NC,” the track stated via social media.

“Tri-County Speedway in Hudson NC is alive and well and working hard on the 2024 race schedule. We hate to loose any race track and we hope the folks in Brasstown get the support to open it back up.”

“All racetracks operate with the support of not only race fans but from the community as well. We are thankful for all of you. See you in about 3 and 1/2 months!”
