On Sunday, NASCAR raced on the short track of Richmond Raceway. We saw full chaos in NASCAR Overtime.

With 2 laps to go, Austin Dillon was 3 seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin. However, Ricky Stenhouse Jr turned Ryan Preece which brought out a caution and sent the race into overtime.
The full field pitted for new tires ahead of the restart. At the launch, Joey Logano get a better jump than Dillon. Logano won the battle off turn two.
At the 1 to go flag, Logano appeared to be driving away. However, when they rolled into the final corner, Dillon skipped the brake pedal and drove right into the bumper of the No. 22, spinning him out.
Hamlin then worked under Dillon off turn four as the No. 3 car gave up all momentum to get to the bumper of Logano. Yet, Dillon turned left, hooking Hamlin in the right rear. The No. 11 was turned hard into the outside wall.
Austin Dillon crashed them all and grabbed his first win in 2 years.

Austin Dillon defends the move
“I don’t know man,” Austin Dillon told NBC Sports on if the move was fair.
“It’s been two years and this is the first car I’ve had with a shot to win. I felt like with 2 to go, we were the fastest car and Ricky wrecked the guy.”
“I hate to do that. But, sometimes you just gotta have it. I gotta than the good lord above. It’s been tough over the last two years.”
“I hate it. But, I had to do it.”
He added, “You just gotta get it done, sometimes.”

“It’s chicken shit! There’s no doubt about it,” Joey Logano stated.
“He’s four car lengths back. He’s not even close. Then, he wrecks the No. 11 to go along with it.”
“Then, he’s going to go up there and thank god and praise everything, with his baby. It’s a bunch of B.S.”
“It’s not even freaking close. I get a bump-and-run, I didn’t back up the corner at all. He just drove through me.”
“It’s ridiculous that that’s the way we race. Unbelievable. I get bump-and-runs, I do that. I would expect it. But, from four car lengths back, he was never going to make the corner.”
“Then, he wrecks the other car. What a piece of crap.”
“Wait and see,” Logano stated on how he’ll race Dillon in the future.
“Apparently, it’s okay. Apparently, you can come from five car lengths back, completely wreck someone and then wreck another one to the line and we’re gonna call that racing.”
“He just pulls a chicken shit move. The kid, he sucks. He’s sucked his whole career. Now, he’s gonna be in the playoffs and good for him, I guess.”

Denny Hamlin comments
“It’s obviously foul. But, it’s fair in NASCAR. We’re just a different league,” Denny Hamlin stated.
“There is no penalties for rough driving or anything like that. It opens up the opportunity for Austin to just do whatever he wants.”
“The only problem I had is I got hooked in the right rear, again. I’m just minding my own business and he turned left and hooked me in the right rear. I blew my damn shoulder out.”
“He’s going to be credited with the win. But, obviously, he’s just not going to go far because you gotta pay your dues back on stuff like that.”
“But, it’s worth it because they jump 20 positions in points. So, I understand all that. I just hate that I was a part of it.”
“A line was crossed. But, it’s an invisible line. It’s not defined. That have rules and provisions for stuff like this but they never take action!”
“It takes young guys coming up in the short track ranks seeing that and they think it’s fine. That’s why we see some of the lower series turn out the way they do.”
“Who am I to throw stones at a glass house. But, I certainly never won one, that way.”

Denny Hamlin calls out NASCAR
“There’s no one in the tower that has any problem with it,” Hamlin later added to Bob Pockrass. “We’re never ever going to get taken seriously as a sport because we have no real officiating.”
“There’s no rules that prohibit it. And, we’ve gotten here because of what we’ve set up. We set up eliminations, playoffs, knockouts and one race for a championship. We’re trying to manufacture these type of moments.”
“When we do it and we look silly, like tonight. In my mind, your sport has mud on it’s face.”
“But, I think there’s probably people in Daytona that love this shit. And they’re the ones that are sending this sport backwards.”
“He jumped 15 spots in the points. It’s crazy that’s how this all works.”
Hamlin added, “I’ve bitched and complained my last few years. But, this is just crazy.”
